Over my career, I’ve coached hundreds of people to identify their strengths and passions so that they become aware and discover the abundance of choices available to them. This has included supporting and navigating them through difficult and unique challenges through leadership, career coaching, and facilitation.

It’s an odd time to be experiencing professional joy these days. There continue to be many unjust actions swimming through this country’s veins.

After a deep breath, exhaling a specific expletive, my focus shifts to a heartwarming success story rooted in a different kind of failure. FuN Boston was featured in the Boston Globe. We’re creating a space in Boston where we admit our biggest failures and share the grief, shame, and lessons learned.

In this moment, the first three values of Fuckup Nights feel wildly important:

1) We take a stand: In moments of increasing polarization and inequality, it’s important to choose the right side of history and be vocal and active about it. We’re trying to get better at this.

2. We act from a place of love: For us, happiness is witnessing acts of love. Meaning is performing acts of love. We create our initiatives with these ideas in mind.

3. We are humble, but we bow to no one: We know we’re privileged and lucky. We feel honored to be a part of FuckUp, and we do our best to increase its impact.

Although F*ckup Nights Boston focuses on professional failures, I can’t help but use the lessons learned to apply the big fail, the grief, shame, and lessons learned to every aspect of life. I’m proud of the work we’re doing in Boston. I hope you join us for the next event.

NEW SERIES: Friendship Check-ins!

Research proves that friendships, community and connection are a clear indicator of our happiness and the length of our lives. I hear so many people say they’re bad at keeping in touch with their friends, especially if they live in a different city, state or country. I know when my life gets busy and I’ve received a “thinking of you, let’s catch up soon” text, it immediately puts a smile on my face.

This will be a monthly series to remind each of us to reach out to our friends and check-in on them. I’ll provide different prompts to get us away from the “how are you” question to encourage deeper, more meaningful questions.

Let’s build stronger friendships!

To get us started, here are a bunch of questions you can ask when texting or calling friends:

1. How’s the dog fostering going? What classes in grad school are you taking these days? How are your parents, partner, children, sibling, roommates?
2. What are you working through or on these days?
3. What are you proud of recently?
4. What are you looking forward to soon?

Springtime is full of flowers, new leaves, and reaching new professional milestones. I’m overjoyed to share that I now hold the Associated Certified Coach (ACC) certificate from the International Coaching Federation!

While preparing for this certification, I’ve been getting my Master’s degree while also working full-time supporting graduate students in developing their careers and building my coaching practice, all while there has been a horrific war looming in the background and foreground. Life’s bitterness and sweetness will always be entwined. In dark moments, we must still experience celebration, joy, and growth because that gets us through. It’s official! I’m a certified coach!

The past year has been a beautiful journey in the coaching profession. I'll share my story soon, but today, I want to share that I’m grateful to work with artists, young people, and Graduate students at Emerson College. I'm thankful for every client who believes in my abilities as a professional coach and is open to growth and making changes in their lives.

I’m thankful for my teachers and peers who have become friends. I’m grateful for my friends and family who have said, “Wow, this feels very right for you,” and have listened to me talk about coaching probably too frequently.

And I’m grateful for my clients who are willing to work with me while in training. I'm thankful for every single person who follows me.

I’m proud of myself for the ~300 hours of direct training over the past year, plus all the books, podcasts, conversations I’ve had with fellow coaches.

The future is bright, and I’m ending 2023 on a high note. Next year will come with more certifications, growth, and transformation. As The Growth Coach, I help you align your values, beliefs, and actions to create lasting change. Get ready because we’re just getting started.

This book hits deep and this conversation was hard and healing. For most people who know me, they see my external energy is often playful and energetic, but few know my internal energy has a deep level of sadness. I don’t show many people that side.

I am so grateful to Shar Banerjee for giving me the space to talk about it and learn from one of my favorite books, Bittersweet: How Sorrow And Longing Make Us Whole by Susan Cain. At its core, it’s given me permission and language to understand that I am a bittersweet being. It’s a recognition that there is pain and suffering in our world, there is an abundance of joy, and both of those truths can be present at once.

To be in a space with both bitter and sweet is like dawn or twilight. It’s a magical place of peace and impermanence.

Shar and I talk about losing a friend over the summer and how this book came into our lives at the right time. I share written words from my friend on her gratitude for friendship and how blessed we are to be in this life BECAUSE OF its impermanence.

I was reminded that in the bitterness of my grieving, the sweetness of her life and our friendship is really really sweet. I’m reminded that we must go through the process of life with all of our emotions, not in spite of, not hiding from, but with.

Life Update: I’m now in grad school!!

What a journey it’s been to get here! I am fortunate to be the Assistant Director, Graduate Students at the Career Development Center here at Emerson College, supporting creative graduate students to continue their education to enhance or change their careers. Getting to know students on their journeys and working with faculty to bring career education into the classroom remains a pleasure.

I’m also lucky to have a supportive team who has encouraged me to return to school to get my master's degree in Business for Creative Enterprises here at Emerson!

As I embark on this journey as a full-time student and staff member at Emerson College, I’m opening my world to curiosity, creative industries, and how we can bring creativity back into our personal and professional lives. I’m very ready to learn from our esteemed faculty and talented peers.

Lastly, I look forward to studying for a master's degree while I continue to deepen my coaching skills. I’m excited to build a career coaching more creatives and artists! More exciting announcements are coming in the next few months.

How many times a day do you say yes? What about no?

I’ve never been a reader. I was never good at it and because of that, I hated reading growing up. That was the story I told myself. I wish I liked it, I wish I could get lost in a book like my family and friends, but it wasn’t for me. My math teacher in high school would always encourage us to read for pleasure. I didn’t understand what she meant. In my mid 20s, I even went back to required reading from high school to see if my more mature self could finally appreciate them. It didn’t work.

It look me 30 years to find the books for me. I love psychology books. I eat them up now. I’ve read more books in the past two years than in my whole adult life.

I’m so proud of being in this series (twice, stay tuned!!) about books that have shaped us with the incredible, wise, powerful, magical Shar Banerjee. I’m proud of how I’ve changed, found books that work for me and absolutely love reading how people communicate different research, theory and sides to the human experience. I’ve changed the story I tell myself.

In this episode we talk about the stories we tell ourselves. The book was given to me as a birthday gift by my aunt and uncle and I believe the universe facilitated that handoff. How did they know I needed this book?!
